The track and sign weekend is design to allow you to recognise the sign that animals leave behind. You may not be able to see the animal but with the skills learnt on this weekend course it will enable you to have a deeper understanding of the animal sign you encounter when out and about. You will discover the different species in and around our wood including an up close and personal look at some small mammals, We will then travel to the local deer park to view herds of Deer. The weekend will start with a look at some of the sign we have collected over the years and that you will be able to find over the weekend. We will give a detailed overview of the different types of tracks we will find, covering foot morphology. We will all walk our 16 acre ancient woodland and surrounding farmland to discover for ourselves what types of track and sign we can find. You will be taught trailing techniques that will get you closer to your subject and put them into practice. During the course we will be setting footprint tunnels, small mammal traps and wildlife cameras to get an even better view of who is living around us. All these skills learnt are all transferable to your own back garden and can show who has been visiting you at home. Our wood is home to a variety of native and not so native animals and using different tracking techniques we can share our love of wildlife and open your eyes to the wildlife around you. Please note that this class is catered for (Saturday evening meal and Sunday breakfast) you will need to bring lunches and snacks if you like to graze during the day. Teas and coffees are available throughout the day. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know when booking. Also because of the course subject the group size will be kept to a maximum number of eight. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
